Jana Vink, LISW, RPT-S

The most unique qualification that many therapists don’t have is Jana’s experience working in a crisis medical situation. This has given Jana unusual skills of handling very fresh, very acute stresses, sometimes even with the medical staff! She worked 15 years with people in the medical field and first responders.

The reason Jana loves that work is because she gets to bring her fast, pretty accurate assessment on every client she meets to ensure they’re getting exactly what they need out in counseling. Some people thrive on humor, others on a soft, gentle approach. Still others want action steps, or behavioral tips and tricks.

The diversity of that job is exactly what Jana brings to her sessions. You will not be pigeonholed into one way of thinking, feeling, or acting. You get to be your full self and it is JANA’S job to pivot to YOU and ensure everything she does, says, and suggests, is a fit for who you are and your unique goals and struggles.

Jana is not a nod and say “that sounds hard” therapist. She’s in the room with you and her hope is that you feel deeply seen and understood from the first session.

After growing up on a farm in Northwest Iowa, Jana began her career helping people in 1998 by working with adolescents in residential care as she attended Dordt College in Sioux Center, IA. Jana graduated with a Bachelor of Social Work in 2000.  She continued to work with adolescents in Newton, Iowa, and then for The Iowa Department of Human Services in Polk County, Iowa, before working directly with families involved in the juvenile court system in their homes. Jana has also worked for other social service agencies before transitioning to medical social work at Iowa Methodist Medical Center from 2003 to 2019. Jana worked in the Intensive Care Unit supporting patients and families in one of the most stressful moments of their lives. Jana later returned to school while working for the ALS Association, Iowa Chapter, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 2012 with her Masters of Social Work.  Since that time, she has worked providing mental health therapy and counseling to adults, children, and families. Jana has received her Registered Play Therapy Supervisor and continues to seek further education through Postpartum Support International for women experiencing post-partum depression and anxiety.

Jana finds the most satisfaction in helping women, families, and children with her training and experience in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, infertility, play therapy, marital therapy, and divorce recovery.  She uses strategies of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Child Centered Play Therapy, as well as Insight-Oriented, Solution-Focused, and EMDR therapies.  Jana has a Christian Worldview, and utilize a Christian framework to the extent patients desire.

In her free time, Jana enjoys reading, traveling with her husband, and wrangling her four children.  Jana may be headed to Kinnick Stadium to cheer on the Hawkeyes or to Des Moines to try out a new restaurant after reading extensively about it on Trip Advisor.  She loves the ocean and tries to visit it when she can. Her children have collected all the shells she gives out to the children seen in her office to share a piece of her favorite quiet place with them.

Colette Schippers, LMHC, CADC

Colette Schippers, LMHC, CADC

I have a passion for walking alongside children, teens, and adults as they navigate the twists and turns of life.  I have experience in mental health residential and community programs, crisis shelters, and vocational counseling, along with a diverse education background. I use each of these experiences to truly meet each person where they are and provide an individualized, client-centered treatment rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor as well as a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADC). I obtained my undergraduate degree from Central College and my Masters Degrees in Counseling as well as Jurisprudence from Drake University. I later obtained my CADC to work with individuals and families affected by drug and alcohol use.

I have done extensive research and presentation on the complexities of chronic mental illness and the mind-body connection. I strive to get to know each individual and treat the person, not just see an illness. I have experience treating individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, substance use disorders, chronic medical conditions, interpersonal conflict, and other life stressors. I primarily use Cognitive-Behavior and Dialectical-Behavioral approaches but continue to explore trainings in Acceptance and Commitment-Based strategies.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two children. As a family, we like to spend time outside, visit extended family, and go to the races. I also enjoy spending time with friends, reading, and anything with chocolate.

Suzanne Rozendaal, LISW

Suzanne is a LISW and has worked in the field of community mental health for 20 years.  She graduated from Mount Mercy College in 2003 with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work and then completed her Master's in Social Work from the University of Iowa in 2006.

Suzanne enjoys working with adults and kids and focuses her practice on treating anxiety, grief, depression, and PTSD. She has completed many trainings over the years, including CBT, DBT, and Mindfulness. She uses these modalities and others, but focuses on utilizing EMDR in her practice. She completed her foundation EMDR training in 2019 and then completed her EMDR certification in 2022.  Suzanne finds working with the brain to create new healthy and resilient neuropathways fascinating. Suzanne believes the brain wants to heal itself from stressful and recurrent thoughts.  She has seen EMDR be effective and provide healing over and over again for both large and small traumas . She loves working with clients to get to a place of healing and overall health. Suzanne also has a particular interest in the use of EMDR for medical anxiety, medical trauma, and pain.  She has treated clients so after years of avoidance, they were able to do hard things, like going to the dentist or getting blood drawn.

When not in her office, Suzanne enjoys camping and doing outdoorsy things with her husband and three kids.  When given the choice she would pick dogs over cats, coffee over tea and the mountains over the beach.
